Step-by-Step Guide: Nissan Intelligent Key Programming

Your Nissan Intelligent Key should come ready to go, but if you recently replaced your key fob or you need to perform a system reset for some reason, you can follow these steps to activate the feature in fewer than fifteen minutes:

  1. To start with, you need to sit in your Nissan with the doors locked.
  2. Put your key into the ignition without starting the engine, then remove the key. You will need to do this 6-ao times until your Nissan accepts the Intelligent Key, then your hazard lights will blink twice to let you know that you’ve entered program mode.
  3. Now that you are in program mode, put your key back into the ignition and turn it slightly without starting the engine. Your electrics should turn on without starting the car.
  4. At this stage, press any button on your Nissan Intelligent Key. Make sure to do it quickly, as the receiver is expecting an immediate action.
  5. Step out of your Nissan and move a fair distance away to test the key. If the lights flash and the horn sounds once, the key has been successfully programmed.
  6. Test the key by standing closer to your Nissan and checking the doors. They should unlock automatically without needing to press any buttons.

How to Replace the Battery in a Nissan Key Fob

Before you get started, make sure that you have a new CR2032 battery on hand!

But don’t forget: if your Nissan Intelligent Key is out of battery, you can use the metal key to access the inside of the vehicle.

How to Open the Nissan Key Fob

  1. Look on the back of your key fob, to find a small release tab.
  2. Press the tab to detach the metal key from the key fob housing. The key is typically located where the fob connects to the key ring.
  3. Take a small flathead screwdriver and pry open the fob housing. It's easiest to do this by inserting the screwdriver into the slot where the metal key was previously located.

How to Replace the Battery

Just pop out the old battery, replace it with a new CR2032 battery, and make sure that the positive side of the new battery is facing down. Then, press the two sides of the housing back together and return the metal key to its original place.
